Our First Family Camping Trip

We left home around 12:30 p.m. in 80 degree weather and sunshine and arrived at 'Uncle Fwoggy's Farm' (as Logan calls it) around 3 p.m. in 86 degree rainy weather. Being warm and rainy was definitely an upside to rain during the trip, but of course with warm rain comes the aftermath--mosquitos, lots of mosquitos.

The swarming nuisance didn't last long and the temperature dropped 15 degrees by nightfall. By that time we were roasting  hot dogs over a blazing fire and making s'mores.  The girls were asleep by 7:30 and Stephen and I had great time just hanging out with adults around a warm fire.

Morning came earlier than usual...the girls were wide awake by 5 a.m. and so were me and Frog. So still being dark and only 38 degrees, I warmed the car and started a movie for the girls while Frog started a fire and I made coffee.  By the time the rest of the campers were up breakfast was cooked and hot coffee was served around a toasty fire. Bliss.

With the sun shining and blue skies, the day warmed to a gorgeous 57 degrees.  The farm is 55 acres of hay fields and pristine Florida oak hammock.  There's a river that runs through it and Grandpa Huffaker's old farm house, art studio, and barns are still there making for a great place to explore.

We couldn't have asked for a better place to camp and better company.  We're planning on returning for Thanksgiving weekend...Stephen's already making a list of things we should have taken...it will probably include the kitchen sink this time. ;-)

...the large round things are hay bailers.

Looks like you guys had a great time! I can't wait to take my crew out again. You can only "make" your children spend time with you for so long :)
